Australia’s most remarkable homes for 2023 were revealed at this year’s Houses Awards presentation. The top honour, Australian House of the Year, was awarded to Merricks Farmhouse by Michael Lumby with Nielsen Jenkins. Merricks Farmhouse, located within an expansive and exposed site overlooking Victoria’s Western Port Bay, is arranged around a central courtyard and explores ideas of prospect and refuge within its surrounding landscape.
The annual awards program, presented by Houses magazine, celebrates excellence in contemporary residential architecture and design across ten categories. Sydney-based practice Saha was recognized in the Garden or Landscape category, winning for Coogee Courtyard, and the practice was also the winner of the Emerging Architecture Practice award.
