The foyers of the new International Towers Sydney feature quarter-sawn American white oak. Architect: Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners.

American white oak from Britton Timbers

Quarter-sawn American white oak from Britton Timbers was specified for an office development as part of the Barangaroo urban renewal project at Sydney Harbour. A dramatic end-grain floor and quarter-sawn wall cladding create the foyer, lobby and lift areas of the new International Towers Sydney.

The quarter-sawing process cuts the board on a 90-degree angle. Unlike traditional sawing, the logs are quartered before they are cut, exposing the medullary ray – a flake-like grain – creating a board that is both stable and beautiful. brittontimbers.com.au
