Stoddart Outdoor Infrastructure was recently commissioned by Melbourne’s La Trobe University to design, manufacture and install several ambitious shelters as part of the Science Drive bus terminus upgrade at its Bundoora campus. Utilizing the flexibility of the Wellington Shelter design, Stoddart was able to cleanly achieve not only the jagged architectural shelter layout, but also the integration of a complex “smart” photovoltaic roof system. This system includes solar roof glass panels, which are the only indication that the structures contribute to powering their own lighting as well as that of the surrounding buildings. A fully concealed hardware network enables remote control and monitoring of the system.

Constructed of aluminium and finished in a bright white powdercoat, the long-span shelters also feature rear glass, advertising panels and seating for patron comfort. Overall, the completed build combines a stunning aesthetic with considered functionality that strongly reinforces Stoddart’s dedication to innovative solutions.

Stoddart is a trusted supplier for large projects such as the shelter at La Trobe University, where flexibility, experience and a commitment to quality are crucial to delivering successful outdoor furniture solutions.

Stoddart’s philosophy is to provide innovative solutions and to offer councils, governments and private customers an Australian company they can trust to aesthetically design, manufacture and install high-quality transport and custom outdoor infrastructure.
