Playfully practical: the Laminex Colour Collection

Joy and inspiration at Nest Kitchen by Studio Doherty

Laminex has collaborated with one of Australia’s boldest and most creative interior design practices on a kitchen that demonstrates the innovative use colours and textures.

Studio Doherty’s energetic Nest Kitchen delivers visual impact, functionality, and unconventional practical solutions with the Laminex Colour Collection, which suits any modern home or apartment.

Colour is synonymous with Laminex as well as Studio Doherty, and it is essential to any project’s success. The Nest Kitchen fully explores the Laminex Colour Collection to yield remarkable results.

Nest’s greatest strength is the way it demonstrates the possibilities of colour, showing that playfulness can work in any space – and it can be particularly effective in smaller areas.

Nest’s defining feature is its prominent curve. Cossetting and comforting, its warm embrace has more than a hint of nostalgia, which can be found in much of Studio Doherty’s work.

The banquette exudes mid-century charm, bringing to mind retro diners and homestyle hospitality updated for a contemporary version of a classic.

Studio Doherty specified a whole host of Laminex decors, and in the construction and manufacture of the kitchen, several surfaces and techniques have been employed to highlight the design potential of the Laminex range.

The colours used include Laminex Just Blue, Pale Honey, Olivine, Coastal Sunrise, Surf – a slightly dirty-white, yellow-based neutral that complements timber and earthy tones – and Laminex Kalamata AbsoluteMatte.

Always playful – but never at the expense of practicality – Studio Doherty links each zone with care and consideration.

“Great kitchens shouldn’t just be for large spaces,” says Doherty.

“We knew people might feel conflicted about blue and green as a combination, but we really love it. ... It feels quite lively and inviting. And it feels friendly, which we really love.” laminex.com.au
