Interior Design Awards shortlist

The Australian interior design industry’s day of reckoning has arrived, with the announcement of the 2009 Interior Design Awards shortlist.

Now in its sixth year, this highly anticipated annual awards program recognizes and celebrates excellence in residential and commercial interior design. The program is co-presented by the Design Institute of Australia (DIA), Designex and Artichoke magazine.

A total of 407 projects were entered into this year’s awards, which was 26% more entries than last year. A record 40% of projects were shortlisted, which is testament to the calibre of the work entered.

“Marrying outstanding ability with the right client and circumstance is not an easy achievement. Yet the previous 12 months has seen some truly visionary interior design projects come to fruition,” says DIA-appointed jury convenor, Francesco Bonato.

By far the largest influx in quality entries was seen in the Corporate Interior Design category. New award category Installation Design attracted 27 entries, of which nine were shortlisted.

The winners and finalists of the 2009 Interior Design Awards will be announced at a gala presentation dinner on Friday 1 May 2009 at the Peninsula, Docklands, in Melbourne.
