Austral Bricks’ Terraçade adds dimensions and texture to the Royal North Shore Hospital.

Terraçade facade system

The new Kolling Research and Education Building addition to the Royal North Shore Hospital’s campus has become a landmark on the North Sydney horizon. Austral Bricks’ Terraçade TL terracotta facade system, in the colour Derwent, adds dimensions and texture to the building’s eastern and western facades, dramatically bookending the 12-storey building.

Highlighting the eastern elevation is a broad band of Terraçade XP in Kimberley Linear accented with bands of Bunbury Linear.

Chris Carr, project architect at Hassell, says, “It’s good value for money. Appearance was also a primary factor. We wanted that terracotta feel, reminiscent of the brickwork the original hospital was built from. And you know how a kiln-fired product is going to weather. We don’t anticipate having to send people out to clean it.”
