Site-specific flora is depicted in Stoddart’s “Perf-Art” totems at Gold Coast’s light rail stations.

Stoddart’s Perf-Art is created by punching different sized holes into metal to represent the various shades within an image.

Perforated metal art by Stoddart

Stoddart manufactures perforated metal products, combining design creativity with strength, precision, versatility and functionality. Recently, Stoddart designed and installed multiple perforated metal artworks, or “Perf-Art” totems, for the Gold Coast light rail project.

Perf-Art is created by punching different sized holes into metal to represent the various shades within an image. That image could be an abstract design, a company or brand logo, or a photograph – anything imaginable.

For the totems created for the Gold Coast light rail project, a variety of native flora specific to each participating station was selected. The designs were proposed by Stoddart and finalized through collaboration with the landscape and urban design teams from CPB Contractors – the construction and design contractor for stage two of the light rail project.

The completed totems were made from 3 mm-thick aluminium and powdercoated using Dulux Electro colours. They each have an approximate diameter of 500 mm, with heights varying from 2.6 metres to 2.8 metres. stoddart.com.au
