Hi-Light screening systems for sun control

The Patrick Berth 10 facility in Brisbane’s growing port precinct is the world’s only fully automated marine container terminal.

The AutoStrad terminal is far removed from most people’s perceptions of the traditional waterfront. It is a modern, safe and highly efficient environment, exhibiting revolutionary technology and a highly skilled workforce. Designed by Fiala Ooi Architects, the facility incorporates warehousing buildings and a stunning control tower with 360-degree views. In support of the facility’s modern techniques, the architecture eschews the traditional industrial fare reserved for the dockside and so typical of our maritime history, to instead bring a high level of sophistication to what is an important part of our nation’s economic future.

Hi-Light Industries was selected to manufacture and install aluminium grating and louvre systems to various buildings in the facility. Simple but highly effective window treatments, angled to deflect glare and direct sunlight to Building 4, with grating type HA403 were manufactured with specific coloured powdercoating treatment to complement the building’s facade design theme. HA253 serrated grated walkway was provided to the rooftop of Building 1. Vertical sunscreen type SS203/60 was provided to Building 6. The stunning tower features Hi-Light louvre type SS323/60 with extruded nosing and ST323/80 fitted to the flagpole deck surround. As the cover photo demonstrates, the louvre system provides a perfect means of sun control, while its position at the top of the angled glazing provides a sense of reaching out beyond the structure, reaching to the sky – a bold treatment for a stunning building.

For over 25 years, Hi-Light aluminium screens have been custom designed and manufactured in Australia from local materials.
