Stoddart custom walkways at Adelaide Airport

Stoddart Infrastructure was commissioned by Adelaide Airport to design, fabricate and install several walkways as part of the 2019 centenary celebrations of the first flight from England to Australia in 1919. The two-stage project, the first of which has been completed and consists of two cantilevered walkways, facilitates patron transfer between the long-term carpark and terminal building via the Vimy Vickers Memorial – the focus of the celebrations.

The custom walkways are based on the design of the Stoddart Infrastructure Decco walkway, characterized by a large-span, curved cantilevered roof design and modular bolt-together assembly methodology. For this project the frame was altered to give a more individual aesthetic to the structure. Full-length guttering was included, as well as the integration of custom perforated picture mesh panels with travel-themed motifs between the posts, providing visual interest to the canopies. Additionally, LED lighting was added for patron comfort.

Constructed from mild steel and then hot-dip galvanized and powdercoated, the walkways have been designed and engineered to suit their location. Stoddart also completed the civil and electrical design and project management. stoddart.com.au
