Vola’s factory in Denmark opened its doors to architects and media for Rising Architecture Week in September 2017. The tapware and accessories brand took groups on guided tours, where they learnt about the design and manufacturing processes behind products such as the renowned Vola HV1 tap.
Marketing director Birthe Tofting explained that Vola is working to counter “throw-away-ism” with its product designs. Technical improvements are designed in such a way that the older generation of taps can be upgraded rather than replaced. Tofting said new products are only introduced when the Vola team is confident they’ve created another classic.
The first Vola tap was designed in 1968 by Arne Jacobsen. Each addition is based on the “DNA” of Jacobsen’s original designs. vola.com
