The Ripples Chowder Bay restaurant is located on property controlled by the Sydney Harbour Trust. The design brief called for a structure that utilized fabric as the main component of the roof structure.
The purpose-built tensioned roof system was designed, manufactured and installed by Grovewood Shade Systems. The Sunbrella fabric used for the system is exposed to all of the weather extremes that a Sydney Harbour foreshore location can throw at it. The fabric and the structure continues to provide sun and weather protection in a stylish and unique manner.
Bill Drakopoulos, managing director of the Aqua Dining Group, was so taken with the finished product that he has commissioned Grovewood to duplicate the system on his new Ripples restaurant site located beach side at Sydney’s Whale Beach.
