Flowcrete has worked with Scottish practice Page\Park Architects to refurbish Glasgow’s historic Kelvin Hall, supplying 1,600 m2 of the seamless resin terrazzo system, Mondéco Mirrazzo.
Visually appealing and hard-wearing, Flowcrete Mondéco Mirrazzo was applied over three floors in a light silvery grey colour that matched the interior design scheme. Light-reflective aggregates were incorporated within the flooring to convey a glittering, luxurious lustre. Stoddart perforated metal panels played a pivotal role in the creation of Wynyard Walk and the Clarence Street station entrance at Sydney’s Wynyard Station. Designed by Woods Bagot, the new entrance and walkway project incorporates more than 1,600 m2 of perforated metal in more than 1,500 panels, all fabricated by Stoddart. Wynyard Walk consists of a series of above- and below-ground urban interventions and links Wynyard Station to the western corridor of Sydney’s CBD. The project is based around the concept of “flow,” with the design language referencing the movement of water as a metaphor for the flow of pedestrians.
The stainless steel panels supplied by Stoddart were used for internal and external applications in the new entrance on Clarence Street as well as for the internal fitout of new portal entrances and tunnel lining works. The intricate patterns were executed in Stoddart’s factory in Karawatha, Brisbane, with 3D-modelling software used to ensure panels fitted into the pattern with precision. The project was the first stage of a $160 million upgrade of Wynyard Station. The future of the built environment will be on show at the 2018 ARBS, Australia’s only international airconditioning, refrigeration and building services trade exhibition, which is now open for visitor registration.
Back in Sydney for the first time since 2010, the exhibition will be held at the new International Convention Centre (ICC), designed by Hassell and Populous, from 8 to 10 May 2018. With more than 350 exhibitors and in excess of 9,000 visitors expected, the exhibition is forecast to be the largest ARBS to date. Entries are open for the 2018 Dulux Colour Awards, with architects and designers invited to submit work showing the use of colour in commercial and residential spaces.
The annual awards celebrate creative and innovative use of colour, with entrants required to illustrate their skill by documenting how a space can be enhanced with Dulux paint. Awards will be presented across nine categories, with each category winner receiving prize money. The Grand Prix winner will be awarded $5,000. The 2018 Landscape Australia Conference: Sharing Local Knowledge for a Global Future will present six design practices from our immediate region – New Zealand, India, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore and China – that are creatively and optimistically tackling the complex challenges of the twenty-first century.
The one-day conference will explore the opportunities and pitfalls of practising internationally, ask what Australian and Asian practitioners can learn from their regional counterparts facing similar challenges, and stress the importance of understanding cultural differences. The speakers will bring a diverse set of backgrounds and perspectives to the conversation, spanning landscape architecture, horticulture, garden design, architecture and urbanism. Each session will include a moderated panel discussion geared toward identifying tools and methods for Australian practitioners, researchers and students.
