Melbourne Design Week (MDW) is an annual 11-day program of talks, tours, exhibitions and workshops that celebrates and interrogates design through varied disciplines.
MDW’s sixth edition, from 17 to 27 March 2022, continues last year’s theme, “Design the world you want,” and celebrates ways design can create a better future. Two pillars – civic good and making good – provide a focused exploration of the theme.
“Civic good” encourages participants to think beyond the individual to serve common interests, while “making good” explores design beyond its functional or aesthetic impact to look at social and environmental effects on the planet.
Programs addressing sustainability, technology, the circular economy and First Nations knowledge and thinking will be activated at a host of hubs – National Gallery of Victoria, RMIT Design Hub, Collingwood Yards, Scienceworks, MPavilion and Melbourne Connect – and supported by presentations by Open House Melbourne, Melbourne Design Week Film Festival and Melbourne Art Book Fair.
This year, Castlemaine and Ballarat will join East Gippsland as regional event destinations. designweek.melbourne
