Capral’s LocAl Green and LocAl Super Green products are strong, lightweight and highly recyclable – providing architects and designers with a more sustainable material choice for their projects, without compromising on design.

Extruded in Australia, LocAl lower-carbon aluminium is responsibly sourced from Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certified smelters.

Capral now offers LocAl – lower-carbon aluminium

Capral has added LocAl®, a lower-carbon primary aluminium option, to its range of locally manufactured extruded window, door and framing systems.

The company launched LocAl® Green and LocAl® Super Green to the Australian construction market in response to specifiers’ increasing demands for a responsibly sourced and locally extruded lower-carbon aluminium product.

LocAl® provides Australian architects, designers, builders and developers with access to a more sustainable aluminium product for their projects.

“We feel it is vital to respond to the needs of the architecture and design community in their commitment to reducing embodied carbon within the built environment,” said Brendon Orth, national specification manager, Capral.

“By making LocAl® Green standard across all our proprietary window systems, architects can specify systems they are familiar with, with no extra effort and no pricing premium. The outcome is a lower embodied carbon solution for their projects.”

Capral is a leading manufacturer and supplier of aluminium window, door and framing systems – specified for a wide range of commercial and residential applications.

With its commitment to reaching Net Zero emissions by 2050, Capral will supply its established range of aluminium products with a 50% reduction in embodied carbon.

“At eight kilograms of carbon emissions per kilogram of aluminium, LocAl® Green has 50% lower carbon emissions than the current global average for primary aluminium,” explained Michael O’Keefe, general manager of marketing and technology, Capral.

The main contributor to carbon emissions associated with aluminium is the electrolysis process used during smelting. With this in mind, the primary aluminium offered under the LocAl® brand is sourced exclusively from Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certified smelters.

“Being able to offer LocAl® aluminium sourced from ASI-certified smelters gives us the added assurance that the aluminium we buy has been produced responsibly, with consideration given to sustainability and societal impact,”said Orth.

Capral is ambitious about offering LocAl® to the Australian design and construction market, giving specifiers and builders an important opportunity to make a more responsible procurement decision when sourcing extruded aluminium.

Both LocAl® Green and LocAl® Super Green products can be supplied with certification upon request, to meet compliance requirements.
