InvisaBoard sub-boards deliver a premium, high-end finish to every build

InvisaBoard sub-boards deliver a premium, high-end finish to every build

These boards must be seen to be believed – or, in this case, “not seen” to be believed. InvisaBoard by Built Boards is Australia’s first true-flush sub-board designed to be recessed into plaster walls, hidden from sight, for a high-end finish.

Currently available in two options – 13-pole with one DIN rail and 26-pole with two DIN rails – with more sizes to come, this innovative TrueFlush system delivers a 100% flush plaster finish.

Built Boards’ quality of build doesn’t stop at aesthetics. Each InvisaBoard is crafted from powdercoated 1 mm steel sheeting, rather than the plastic found in most off-the-shelf sub-boards.

Each board comes install-ready, supplied with a pre-primed and ready-to-paint door, pole filler strips, snap bushings, and circuit indication sticker kit. An optional surface fit door kit has also been developed for situations where the TrueFlush component has not been plastered in, with the door designed to sit flush on the plaster surface. builtboards.com.au

Designing with timber laminates

Woodgrain laminates from the Laminex® Colour Collection.

CJH Studio celebrates the authentic appeal of woodgrain laminates from the Laminex® Colour Collection with an open wardrobe of natural beauty, which offers unconventional, convertible and flexible comfort in unexpected ways.

CJH Studio explores their trademark bespoke furniture style with a convertible make-up desk, best exemplifying their approach to practical, flexible living. The strong lines of the wardrobe are broken up with a soft back curve to the hanging space, highlighting the versatility of Laminex® Woodgrains.

Using a deliberate mix of authentic timber and mineral finishes, the wardrobe benefits from a consistency of materiality.

Concrete is the world’s most popular construction material. It is fluid and can be engineered and formed to your exact design and then sets strong for life. Concrete is used everywhere from houses to multi-storey buildings to infrastructure projects including bridges, tunnels, dams, airports and roads.

Sustainable for life

Solid, safe and lasting

With concrete you are futureproofing your build and futureproofing Australia. Concrete is Australia’s locally manufactured, proven, durable and resilient construction material that just gets stronger over time. It is trusted to build the places in which we live, work and play and to construct the infrastructure that we rely on now and into the future.

Pressed steel roofing panel systems with textured or smooth finishes – now available in Australia

Proven around the world for over 60 years, Gerard pressed steel roofs are now available in Australia. Popular for their stylish looks, with designs ranging from classic to modern, a Gerard roof can enhance any home.

Withstands the test of time

For decades, Gerard roofs have been widely acclaimed for their robust quality, innovative design and wide range of finishes and accessories. Each roof is made up of individual pressed panels installed using a unique fixing system that effectively locks them together to form a single structural unit. The result is a roof that lasts a very long time, and can endure some of the most extreme climates and environments on the planet.

Survives the harshest threats

The innovative design of the panels, high strength-to-weight ratio make a Gerard roof safe and secure against almost anything nature serves up. The securely interlocked panels eliminate gaps where flying embers may enter, making the system one the most fire-safe available – even approved for use in Australia’s highest bushfire zones (BAL–FZ).

Gerard’s unique fixing method has also been proven, by James Cook University, to withstand wind speeds of more than 350 km/h (stronger than a category 3 tropical cyclone). And being steel, Gerard roofs enjoy the highest possible rating for impact resistance. So, while giant hail stones destroyed many slate, clay and concrete tile roofs in the devastating Sydney 1999 hailstorm, Gerard roofs survived. In adverse conditions of all sorts, Gerard roofs have excelled where others have not.

Iron-clad warranty

A roof is more exposed to the elements than any other part of the home. With this in mind, Gerard stands by its roofs with a complete product warranty that provides both clarity and peace of mind. In standard environments, Gerard roofs are guaranteed to remain weatherproof for decades, protecting the home for many years to come. gerardroofs.com.au

Abundance of plywood at Gold Coast Airport
Item 008 by Carter Holt Harvey Woodproducts

Abundance of plywood at Gold Coast Airport

Gold Coast Airport’s southern terminal is having a 30,000 m2 expansion, designed by Hassell, that will double the footprint of the existing build.

Construction presented numerous challenges, including scale, noise reduction and a global pandemic. Havendeen Roofing project manager Jaime Genn explained, “A double layer of locally made Ecoply plywood was installed over the entire roof to meet the acoustic rating – totalling 14,000 m². The added benefit was that workers then had free reign to work under it while insulation and roofing sheets were installed on top.” This ultimately helped speed up construction. ecoply.com.au

Clever cladding systems

Clever cladding systems

Reimagine cladded facades with these innovative aluminium cladding products from DECO Australia

With a spotlight on durability, aesthetics and compliance in cladding products, architectural building systems supplier DECO Australia offers three complete cladding systems that meet the needs of specifiers, builders and the wider construction industry.

The aluminium DecoClad®, DecoBatten® and DecoPanel® products are suitable for a range of applications, realizing creative designs with enduring aesthetic appeal. Each system is lightweight and easily installed, and has a range of accessories. Dimensionally stable profiles and hardwearing finishes provide longevity and ease of maintenance.

Solid aluminium is the future of cladding, bringing classic design to applications where traditional materials – such as timber and composite panels – can’t be used. Completely non-combustible, aluminium will not ignite or spread flame, and can be used on high-rise buildings and in bushland areas where fire safety is paramount. DECO’s aluminium cladding options are recyclable, will not warp or rot, and do not require regular refinishing, retaining their appearance for years to come.

DecoClad® reinvents the traditional weatherboard. It features a patented interlocking aluminium board with concealed fixings, for quick and easy installation. DecoClad® is available in six different profiles: two weatherboards, a smaller Croatia board, two with recessed “shadows” for seamless transitions, and a V-groove board.

DecoBatten® captures the rising trend of batten facades. The two-piece QuickClick installation system and lightweight profiles allow the battens to be installed seamlessly across walls, ceilings, windows and doors. With the unique SpaceBase backing plate, DecoBatten® becomes a complete cladding system, spacing battens evenly across unfinished substrates or surfaces.

DecoPanel® replicates the contemporary aluminium composite panel style – minus a combustible core. Lightweight, easily face-fixed and available in different sizes, DecoPanel® can cover large spaces such as high-rise facades. The 2 mm aluminium panels can handle curved surfaces, and can be customized in a myriad of ways, including bending, laser cutting and perforation.

With a range of finishes available, DECO cladding systems offer ultimate design flexibility. Choose from DECO’s renowned finishes: DecoWood® sublimated, timber-look powdercoated finish; DecoVogue concrete-look and rust-look finishes; DecoUltra metallic anodized finishes; and DecoCoat solid colours.

Bring cladding design to life with DECO’s aluminium systems – the clever way to clad your next project. deco.net.au

Elton Group’s WoodWall for the new Adelaide Sofitel Hotel’s ninth-floor restaurant
Item 014 by The Elton Group

Elton Group’s WoodWall for the new Adelaide Sofitel Hotel’s ninth-floor restaurant

The selection, sourcing and authenticity of Elton Group’s timber veneer were vital factors in bringing the design of Adelaide Sofitel Hotel’s ninth-floor restaurant to life.

Supplementing WoodWall veneer used throughout the hotel, Elton Group worked with Sofitel to create a custom-stained oak WoodWall that perfectly matched the foyer parquet floor.

Hung in single 4 m full-length sheets and sequence-matched, the flexible and paper-backed WoodWall veneer allowed the crafting of perfect joins that are not possible with other forms of timber veneer. Prefinished with a timber polish, elegant solid timber mouldings were added and stained to match the WoodWall, creating a traditional fielded panel aesthetic.

Installed just days before opening, WoodWall rolls were delivered to site and hung with no framing or on-site finishing required, taking a fraction of the time it would to install traditional timber panels. WoodWall is Group 1 fire-rated, defect-free and provided in sequence-matched runs, making it perfect for commercial applications. eltongroup.com/woodwall

The buildings of tomorrow
Item 041 by BlueScope Steel – Colorbond

The buildings of tomorrow

The Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC) was the first building in Australia fully accredited under the Living Building Challenge (LBC), as well as being the Illawarra’s first six-star Green Star Building. The LBC is arguably the highest built environment sustainability accreditation in the world today with its ambition to encourage buildings to be net zero energy and water, to connect more readily with the natural environment, and provide comfortable and restorative places to live and work.

The SBRC not only embodies sustainable design, but is a “living” laboratory for improving building and material design. The “high-bay” roof is divided into two discrete sections using Colorbond steel in the colour Surfmist and Colorbond Coolmax steel. These materials were chosen for their high solar reflectance (low absorptance) and ability to improve the thermal performance of a building.

The building also meets the high standards demanded by the material and waste requirements of the LBC with the BlueScope materials used being manufactured locally and incorporating recycled content. BlueScope is also committed to sustainable sourcing practices that create, protect and built long-term environmental, social and economic value. steel.com.au/epd
