Carbon-neutral plasterboard from Knauf

Knauf has introduced Australia’s first carbon-neutral plasterboard as part of its long-term focus on reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing plasterboard.

Since 2009, Knauf has introduced and invested in a wide range of measures to reduce carbon emissions in the complete lifecycle of manufacturing plasterboard, from the supply of raw materials, to end of life. With these procedures in place, Knauf has achieved carbon neutral certification under the government’s National Carbon Offset Standard (NCOS).

Where the environmental reduction measures are not able to completely eliminate carbon emissions, Knauf uses qualified providers of carbon offsets that not only meet the NCOS requirements, but also meet social responsibility measures, such as supporting the LifeStraw Project in Kenya that provides safe drinking water to local communities.

Knauf’s commitment to carbon neutrality and its partnership with Lendlease has contributed to Sydney’s Barangaroo South urban renewal project being lauded as a landmark sustainable precinct. knaufplasterboard.com.au
