The Green Star-rated rebuild of the Stokehouse In Melbourne features a textured off-form finish.

Ornate hand-painted concrete domes are the centrepiece of the Punchbowl Mosque in Sydney, New South Wales.

A better performing lower carbon concrete

Beautiful buildings made possible with ENVISIA® concrete.

Concrete is the most widely used material in the building and construction industry. With the sheer volume of concrete being poured into large-scale projects in Australia, there's a real opportunity to create a sustainable product that addresses carbon emissions associated with concrete production.

ENVISIA® by Boral is a lower carbon concrete with high performance benefits, which help architects to achieve design innovation and meet sustainability requirements.

The recently completed Punchbowl Mosque in the south-west of Sydney has been championed as a unique place of worship – making a monumental architectural statement with its striking use of concrete.

The architect selected ENVISIA@ concrete because of Its light appearance and off-form finish, while the project's engineers were able to take advantage of its low shrinkage characteristics.

The finish of ENVISIA@ also provided the perfect blank canvas for master calligraphers to hand-paint the 99 names of Allah in Arabic in gold on the domes. In addition to the minaret featuring a skylight at its peaked centre, each concrete dome contains tiny holes to allow shards of light to penetrate into the mosque. The striking building has garnered industry awards and admiration as an important architectural space.

Boral also helped lift the famed Stokehouse restaurant out of the ashes of a devastating fire in 2014 to become Australia's first 5-Star Green Star fine-dining restaurant. The owner of the Stokehouse wanted to include sustainable and durable building materials, as well as ensure the project's environmentally friendly construction without compromising on Robert Simeoni Architects' design.

The rebuild was at the forefront of low-carbon emission construction as the first Victorian venue to showcase Boral's lower carbon concrete: ENVISIA® was used for the cantilevered slabs and exposed columns, reducing the volume of concrete and steel reinforcement required. It was chosen for various characteristics, including lower carbon, high early strength, durability, light colour, excellent off-form finish and suitability for marine environments.
