Enter now: ArchitectureAU Award for Social Impact

$5,000 cash prize recognizes good design for greater good

Celebrate design that promotes the common good with the ArchitectureAU Award for Social Impact, which is now open for entries.

A $5,000 cash prize will be awarded for practice that preferences empathy over aesthetics, extends spatial possibilities to advance the discipline of architecture and empowers users of built work.

This program is Australia’s only national accolade for such work.

“This award is long overdue as a way to recognize and celebrate the outstanding projects that make a difference to the public, to local communities, and underrepresented groups,” said jury convener and Melbourne School of Design associate professor Rory Hyde.

Submitted projects must be connected to Australian architecture and the built environment and already built – they may not be speculative.

Projects may be large- or small-scale and may relate to social cohesion, racial justice, inclusive housing, accessibility or other societal issues where design can make a difference.

Individuals, groups, partnerships and those working at practices of all types and scales are welcome. Entrants may be architects, interior designers, urban designers, landscape architects or other built environment professionals.

The shortlist will be published on ArchitectureAU.com on Thursday 16 May, 2024. Awarded projects will be published on ArchitectureAU.com on Thursday 4 July, 2024 and in the July 2024 issue of Architecture Australia.

Entries close at 5 pm (AEDT) on Friday 8 March, 2024. aausocialimpact.com.au

The 2024 ArchitectureAU Award for Social Impact is conducted with presenting partner University of Melbourne and supporting partners Latitude, PeptoLab and NHO.
